Nancy Allred, Artistic Director
On Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18, 2018, the Heritage Choir will perform much-loved sacred selections in a special musical fireside, “Songs of Faith.” In collaboration with the St. George Temple Visitors Center, these performances will be held in the St. George Tabernacle at 7:00 PM each night and all are welcome.
With the recent rededication of the St. George Tabernacle, the Heritage Choir is thrilled to be able to share the gift of music with the community in that historic structure, performing sacred anthems of faith, devotion and remembrance. Many favorites will be performed such as Richard Elliott’s “Let Us All Press on,” Mack Wilberg’s “Praise to the Lord,” Lloyd Larson’s, “Do Not Let Your Heart Be Troubled,” Craig Courtney’s “Fairest Lord Jesus,” and several others. The Choir will also feature Dan Forrest’s magnificent arrangement of “How Great Thou Art.”
Dr. Ken Peterson, principal conductor of the Heritage Choir will direct this wonderful performance. Dr. Nancy Allred, artistic director and pianist for the choir will share accompanying responsibilities with talented organist, Karen Lee Kennedy.
The Southern Utah Heritage Choir was formed in 1994 to celebrate the traditions and rich heritage of Southern Utah and the nation. The Choir maintains a rigorous performing schedule, presenting annual Christmas concerts, patriotic concerts, spring and fall concerts, heritage concerts and many sacred musical events. The Choir has represented the Mormon Battalion, performing in the Salt Lake Tabernacle, the Assembly Hall on Temple Square, and at the historic Mormon Battalion Monument in San Diego California. The Choir has also participated in the Temple Square Choral Festival.
In addition to its regular performance schedule, the Choir has toured widely, performing concerts in the Czech Republic, Armenia, Mexico, England, Scotland, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, the Midwestern States, China, Ireland, Poland, Austria, and Hungary. During October 2019, the Choir will travel to Rome, Italy, and perform in many sacred venues and cathedrals, including a performance at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. The Choir performs a comprehensive repertoire of choral music to accomplish its mission – that of “bringing people closer to the Savior through beautiful music.”
We invite all to come and enjoy this wonderful evening of sacred music on August 17th and 18th in the St. George Tabernacle. The Choir is also preparing for a Fall Concert in the Cox Auditorium on September 21st, featuring distinguished soloists from the St. George Opera.
