Monday, February 05, 2018

Start: 7:00 pm
Length: 2 hrs

The New American Drama Series is back with more staged readings of award-winning contemporary drama. 2/5: “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time”, Simon Stephen’s Tony Award-winning poetic and ultimately joyous tale of a brilliant autistic boy’s journey of self-discovery. Professional actors team up with students from the DSU Department of Theatre under the direction of Kathryn Mederos Syssoyeva for this series of staged readings, presenting cutting-edge, award-winning drama by contemporary American playwrights. Ranging from realism to the absurd, pathos to dark comedy, these plays engage some of our most urgent social concerns – the demise of industry, the vanishing middle class, race relations, social fragmentation, global warming…. Performed in an intimate theatrical setting, each reading is preceded by a presentation on the playwright, and followed by a conversation between audience, cast, and director to tease out the themes these of rich new works and draw connections to our own social and political realities.

Admission: suggested donation of $15 or $5 for students
